Even before getting selected as the number one overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Victor Wembanyama built a huge fanbase around the globe.
The French phenom has the potential to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time, thanks to his towering height of 7-foot-4, allowing him to be an amazing defender.
Many have praised Wembanyama’s ability to either steal or block the ball at will throughout the season.
So much so that Wembanyama is among the fan favorites to win the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award this season.
Considering Wembanyama is a rookie, winning the incredible honor in his first season in the NBA would certainly help his legacy.
However, Draymond Green believes that the San Antonio Spurs star doesn’t deserve the award, as revealed via NBACentral on Twitter.
“I don’t think you can give that award to somebody who is on the 24th-best defense in the league,” Green said.

Green didn’t deny the value that Wembanyama brings to the defensive end of the floor at an individual level.
However, the Golden State Warriors veteran said Wembanyama’s team is the 24th-best defensive team in the league, which disqualifies him from consideration.
Green continued by pointing out that if Wembanyama wins the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award this season, Jayson Tatum should take home the MVP honors.
Players like Rudy Gobert and Anthony Davis will most likely be the ones to either win the award or come close to it.
As for Wembanyama’s numbers, he is averaging 20.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game for the season.
In addition to that, the Spurs rookie is also adding 1.4 steals and 3.4 blocks per game to the team.
