Despite a regime change, the New York Giants chose to keep quarterback Daniel Jones.
New head coach Brian Daboll would like to see what he has with Jones, hoping that he has just been a victim of subpar mentoring.
The former Duke standout did show some glimpses of excellence throughout his tenure with the Giants.
However, postseason success has evaded him since he was drafted in 2019.
With an offensive-minded head coach at the helm, Jones should show some improvement in running the Giants’ offense.
But despite the criticism he has received throughout his NFL career, his backup quarterback Davis Webb vouched for him.
Giants backup QB Davis Webb on Daniel Jones:
“He's probably the smartest QB I've been around.”

Webb said via the New York Post that he is the smartest quarterback he has been with.
That’s a tall order, given that Webb has already played with Patrick Mahomes, Eli Manning, and Josh Allen.
Both Mahomes and Manning have led their respective teams to Super Bowl victories.
Meanwhile, Allen is one of the best quarterbacks in the league who will continue to lead the high-powered Buffalo Bills offense.
Webb didn’t quantify what he meant about Jones being the smartest.
After all, intelligence takes several forms.
The verdict is still out on Jones in becoming a franchise quarterback.
However, time is running out for him to prove his worth.
Jones And The Giants Must Manifest Some Fight In Them
It’s difficult to see the Giants emerging as NFC East champions.
General manager Joe Schoen is still fixing the mess that his predecessor, Dave Gettleman, made.
Therefore, they are still a season or two away from becoming legitimate contenders.
However, Jones should inspire the Giants to keep fighting even if the chips are down.
That mindset should extend his stay in The Big Apple.
