The Los Angeles Lakers hoped D’Angelo Russell would be their next superstar, but that wasn’t the case.
He wasn’t put in a position to succeed, with a coach that didn’t want to play him and let him grow through his mistakes.
Russell was eventually dealt without hesitation, and while he broke out and took a major leap forward with the Brooklyn Nets, he was never able to live up to the expectations and become a perennial All-Star.
Even so, and despite his late-season struggles last year, some Lakers fans embraced him and welcomed him back with open arms.
That includes a young Lakers fan who was also in attendance at Wednesday night’s Los Angeles Galaxy game.
The Lakers combo guard heard the fan screaming and trying to get his attention, so he reached out to him to sign and give him his custom L.A. Galaxy jersey and make his day.

Notably, Russell has admitted to his wrongdoings and struggles at the beginning of his career, and he knows he’s indebted to Lakers fans for that.
Russell has embraced a lesser role because he knows that’s what’s best for the team, even though he would be able to get more minutes and touches with another team.
The Lakers are all-in about raising banner No. 18, and when that happens, that young man might be donning his brand-new Galaxy D’Angelo Russell jersey.
