The Detroit Lions took the field with a championship mindset when they traveled to Arrowhead Stadium for the season opener vs. the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Lions didn’t force things or let their mistakes get into their heads, and they made the most of every single chance they had to hurt Andy Reid’s squad.
However, Mike Tirico still said postgame that this win should have an asterisk next to it because the Chiefs were undermanned without Chris Jones and Travis Kelce.
To that, Lions HC Dan Campbell simply asked whether there was an asterisk next to their 1-0 record (via Eric Woodyard).
Lions head coach Dan Campbell responded to Mike Tirico’s postgame comments about the Chiefs win having an “asterisk” because they didn’t have Chris Jones or Travis Kelce. “Is there an asterisk by the 1-0?” Campbell said.

Of course, not having your best pass-catcher and best defender will take a toll on every single team.
But stating that this win should have an asterisk next to it is a huge stretch, not to mention disrespectful.
The Lions showed up ready to play.
They did an outstanding job of keeping balance in the offense, and Campbell was uber-aggressive with his game plan, even calling a fake punt within his own 20 just at the beginning of the game.
This Lions team wants to make it clear that they’re not the same old Lions.
They closed out last season on a high note and even flirted with playoff contention, and they should be on top of the NFC North division this season.
The Chiefs should’ve and could’ve won that game, and they also made their fair share of mistakes, but there’s simply no way to discredit what the Lions did.
