The Detroit Lions hit the ground running and kicked off their season on a high note.
They were unfazed by the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl banner party, and they came in ready to prove that they’re ready to take a major leap forward this season.
According to Colin Cowherd, that was the key to their success.
The renowned analyst claimed that, even though they didn’t play flawless football by any means, HC Dan Campbell made sure to set the tone early and send a message when he went for it on fourth down in his own territory (via The Volume).

Cowherd says that the Lions didn’t play not to lose, which has often been an issue for teams playing against Patrick Mahomes.
He thinks the Lions took the field with an attitude and an aggressive mindset, and that ended up being the biggest difference there.
You have to take chances when you go against the best, and the Chiefs will be the best team in the league until proven otherwise.
Ever since he took over, Campbell has made it clear that he has the utmost confidence in his team, and that could go a long way.
His players will run through a wall for him, and there’s just a different feeling about this Lions team.
Campbell has been great at setting the tone and developing a winning culture within an ever-struggling franchise, and you better believe this won’t be the last time they’ll win a game they were supposed to lose.
