Damian Lillard definitely wants to leave the Portland Trail Blazers but he’s not willing to sacrifice his values to make that happen.
Speaking to “It Is What It Is,” Lillard was asked about how he feels when other players in the league, specifically James Harden, lash out and act up in order to initiate a trade.
Lillard said that isn’t how he would act.
While he has certain demands, he isn’t going to change who he is or act in a way he’s uncomfortable with in order to get them.
“If it don’t go my way, I’m just like, ‘that’s what it is,'” Lillard said.
Lillard’s trade request has certainly been heartbreaking for the Blazers, if not all that surprising.
After years and years of rumors and season after season of falling short, few people were shocked to hear Lillard was ready to move on.
Still, he has acted professionally throughout this process.
Fans are understandably upset that Lillard is planning an exit but they are also grateful he isn’t making things worse by acting like Harden.
Harden has been very public about his desire to leave and his disdain for Philadelphia 76ers president Daryl Morey.
That entire situation has become something of a scandal while Lillard’s in Portland has been quiet and uneventful.
Will Lillard or Harden be the first to get their wish and leave their team?
They are both employing incredibly different tactics to start this next chapter of their NBA careers.
Will it pay off for either of them?
