Missing out on last year’s playoffs must still be painful for the Indianapolis Colts.
They had two chances to clinch a postseason berth but failed.
Losing to the Las Vegas Raiders is understandable because they were a playoff under interim head coach Rich Bisaccia.
But going down against the Jacksonville Jaguars was unacceptable.
The Colts might have been playing on the road, but there’s no way the Jaguars are better than them.
Worst yet, they only managed 11 points in that terrible performance.
However, that defeat led to a busy offseason that addressed roster concerns.
The Athletic’s Zak Keefer kept track of the transactions Indianapolis did to prevent another collapse.
Colts F.A. adds:
Trade for QB Matt Ryan
Trade for DE Yannick Ngakoue
Re-sign TE Mo Alie-Cox
Re-sign LB Zaire Franklin
Re-sign DE Tyquan Lewis
Re-sign OT Matt Pryor
Signed CB Brandon Facyson
Sign S Rodney McLeod
Sign S Armani Watts
Sign LB Brandon King
Sign CB Stephon Gilmore— Zak Keefer (@zkeefer) April 15, 2022
The Colts have covered almost the entire roster with the 11 transactions they’ve done so far.
First, they’ve re-signed reliable players in tight end Mo Alie-Cox, linebacker Zaire Franklin, defensive end Tyquan Lewis, and offensive tackle Matt Pryor.
Then, they brought in free agents Rodney McLeod, Armani Watts, Brandon King, and Brandon Facyson.
They’ve also traded for defensive end Yannick Ngakoue to bolster their pass rush.
Huge Transactions For Indianapolis
But their biggest deals this offseason were for 2019 Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore and former league MVP Matt Ryan.
The Colts had to move on from Carson Wentz after his lone season with the team, ending his reunion with former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator and current Colts head coach Frank Reich.
They traded for Ryan in exchange for their third-round selection in this year’s draft.
Meanwhile, Gilmore joined on a two-year, $23 million deal with $14 million in guaranteed money.
His inclusion gives the Colts an All-Pro player in all three levels of their defense.
DeForest Buckner leads the push upfront while Darius Leonard is right behind at outside linebacker
These additions should improve Indianapolis’ chances of making the playoffs with games to spare.
