Even long before he was taken as the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, people were talking about how good of a career Victor Wembanyama would have.
A unique prospect like nothing we had ever seen before, some raved about him as potentially the greatest prospect in the history of basketball.
And after watching him play just a couple of games in the NBA Summer League, Colin Cowherd is confident the San Antonio Spurs have something special going on.
"This is going to hurt your feelings. The dynamic point guards that can't shoot don't win titles… Wemby is going to win titles."

Cowherd took a swipe at those who claimed that Scoot Henderson was a safer bet than Wembanyama, citing that point guards who can’t shoot don’t win NBA championships, and going as far as to predict that Wembanyama would win multiple titles.
Of course, that’s the hope and the expectation, as Wemby’s unique skill set makes him the rarest player that has ever set foot on an NBA hardwood.
Nonetheless, that’s a double-edged sword as well, as there’s no blueprint as to how his career will turn out, and there will always be some major concerns about his lanky physique and his height.
We already knew that Wembanyama’s play in the Summer League would lead to some major overreactions, both good and bad.
Perhaps it would be better to pump the brakes a little and wait until he at least makes his actual debut in the regular season.
Wembanyama might need more time than the average prospect to fulfill his true potential; which is why it’s wisest not to jump to conclusions so fast.
