Chris Simms has been one of Bo Nix’s most vocal supporters throughout the 2024 NFL season, and his enthusiasm for the young quarterback continues to grow.
The former NFL quarterback-turned-analyst sees something special in Nix, particularly noting how well he fits into the offensive system of Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton.
The buzz around Nix’s development has led to some intriguing comparisons, most notably to New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees.
The quarterbacks share similar traits: exceptional football IQ, pinpoint accuracy, and a knack for avoiding sacks.
Simms is taking particular pride in his early assessment, recalling his prediction from the NFL Scouting Combine.
“I called that at the Combine last year. I said Bo Nix — Drew Brees Jr. — going to Denver, guaranteed it. That was another one I called. But you didn’t get on me last year,” Simms said, via DNVR Broncos.

Simms highlighted Nix’s exceptional pocket presence, ranking him alongside Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears as one of the best rookies at escaping pressure while maintaining throwing accuracy.
Under Payton, who helped shape Brees into a likely Hall of Famer, Nix has shown remarkable promise.
His rookie campaign was impressive, with a 66.3 percent completion rate and 29 touchdowns compared to 12 interceptions.
Nix’s impact on the Broncos has been transformative as he helped Denver to its first playoff appearance since 2015.
Though it’s still early in his career, Nix’s precise passing and natural leadership qualities have many believing that Payton has found his next franchise quarterback.
The parallels to Brees became more apparent with each game, suggesting that Denver’s future is in very capable hands.
