The San Antonio Spurs already had the most promising young man in the league and perhaps in all professional sports.
They needed to surround Victor Wembanyama with veterans who could teach him the ropes of the NBA game and lifestyle, not to mention teach him what it takes to win.
However, they also needed to give him a young sidekick, someone who would fit his timeline and be good with him for years to come.
With that in mind, they went with G Stephon Castle.
The UConn product is one of the most promising prospects in this year’s class, and it seems like he’s already made a strong impression on one of his veterans.
Recently, Chris Paul almost claimed that Castle was better than him when he first entered the league (via Spurs Culture).
Chris Paul genuinely seems impressed with Stephon Castle
"I mean, i was nice when I came in as a rookie, but i……"
He had to stop himself from giving Castle too much praise lmao pic.twitter.com/rK7Eaju8YL

The future Hall of Famer. raved about how you could tell how a player was coached in college when that player made it to the league, and Paul was very impressed with Dan Hurley’s job.
Castle has the potential to be one of the best scoring guards in the game while also being an absolute pest on defense, and his basketball IQ and instincts are also remarkable for such a young player.
He just needs to develop a consistent jump shot, and he could be a legitimate dark horse candidate to take home the Rookie of the Year award, even if Wembanyama will be the one stealing most of the headlines for Gregg Popovich’s team this season.
