The New York Jets feel confident about Zach Wilson as their QB1 for the remainder of the season, or at least HC Robert Saleh.
But even though Wilson is coming off the best performance of his career, even some of his teammates have doubts about his ability to lead the team to the playoffs, and rightfully so.
That’s why there has been a lot of talk about the veterans the Jets could and should target to fill in for Aaron Rodgers and help this talented roster reach its true potential.
With that in mind, former MVP Cam Newton stated that he would only accept an offer of more than $5.5 million, adding that he wouldn’t let them ‘penny pinch him’ if they wanted him to be their next QB.
Needless to say, those comments didn’t sit well with a lot of people, and that includes Kansas City Chiefs’ LB Willie Gay Jr.
Gay Jr. stated that, if the Jets were to want Newton, he’d be on the first plane to New York right away, regardless of the salary (via JPA Football).

Truth be told, it’s hard to think of Newton turning down any offer to be a starting quarterback in this league again.
His last two tenures were far from successful, and it’s more than evident that he’s not going to get back to his MVP level ever again, and not many teams would be willing to offer him $5.5 million, not even the 2023 New York Jets, with or without Zach Wilson.
