Because of the MLB lockout, spring training was shortened this year.
As a result of spring training being so truncated, pitchers did not have nearly as much time to prepare for the season and go deep into games.
We’ve seen a ton of pitchers pulled after just five innings early on this year.
But there have been a few starters who have managed to last seven innings or longer in a few starts.
New York Mets‘ righty Carlos Carrasco is one of them.
With his start last night against the Atlanta Braves, he became the first pitcher this season to have multiple outings which lasted more than seven innings.
There have been 12 such outings this year and Carrasco has two of them.

Mets Rotation Stays Hot
This is encouraging for the Mets, who already boast arguably the best starting rotation in all of Major League Baseball.
Carrasco’s dominance only adds to the list of success stories in the Mets’ rotation.
They now have multiple starters who have gone at least seven innings or more in their starts.
A major key to the success of a rotation is how long the starters last.
Carrasco seems to have passed that test with flying colors.
The veteran right-hander improved to 2-1 and lowered his ERA to 3.30 in the Mets’ 3-0 win over the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves, shutting down one of the best offenses in all of baseball.
The Mets also improved to 18-8 on the year, which is the best record in the entire National League.
The starting rotation has been the key to the Mets’ success and Carrasco is just one of many important pieces in that rotation that have performed well to start 2022.
