It’s safe to say that Friday night was a night to forget for the St. Louis Cardinals and their loyal fans.
After jumping out to an early 5-0 lead, they stranded the bases loaded three times and ultimately allowed seven unanswered runs, suffering their most devastating loss of the season thus far.
This has been a trend for a team that was heavily favored to win the NL Central.
The Cardinals have suffered some tough losses this season, and Friday night was no different.
In fact, it was the second time this week that they had blown a late lead.
On Twitter, Cardinals analyst Brandon Kiley listed three of the team’s most soul-crushing losses, pointing out a very disturbing trend.
The 10th inning loss against the Reds, the Ramirez walk off against the Guardians and now this loss tonight against the Pirates.
When the #STLCards lose lately, they find a way to do it in the most dramatic way possible.

Kiley referenced a 6-5 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on May 22.
In that game, the Cardinals rallied from a late deficit to tie it at five runs apiece.
But after stranding the bases loaded in the ninth, they were walked off in extra innings.
On Sunday, they were an out away from taking two out of three from the Cleveland Guardians.
Unfortunately, Ryan Helsley let the lead slip as Jose Ramirez delivered a walk-off double.
Friday night was yet another gut-punch loss for the team.
They returned to last place in the NL Central and now sit 5.5 games back of first, eight games below the .500 mark at 25-33.
Kiley noted that when the Cardinals lose, they seem to be doing so in the most dramatic ways possible, with Friday being a perfect example of this troubling trend.
