Friday night was a night to forget for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Coming into play against the Pittsburgh Pirates at 25-32, they scored five runs in the third inning and jumped out to a 5-0 lead.
However, the offense went quiet after that, and the Pirates ended up scoring seven unanswered runs to take the series opener from the Cards.
The bullpen allowed six of those runs in the seventh inning.
St. Louis also stranded the bases loaded three times on Friday and left 12 runners on base, wasting a strong start from Jack Flaherty.
On Twitter, Cardinals insider Brenden Schaeffer posted a hilarious meme to sum up the team’s crushing defeat.
This showed up in a group chat of mine tonight and boy if that doesn't just hit the nail on the head for #STLCards fans pic.twitter.com/CacANf3RFR

The meme is from “The Simpson’s Movie” when Bart declares a certain day the worst day of his life, only for Homer to correct him by saying it’s the worst of them so far.
The Cardinals have had a number of crushing losses similar to Friday’s.
Each one has been a backbreaker for the team and its fans.
However, as the season rolls on, the Cardinals continue to find new ways to lose.
This game is one they seemingly had control over, as they entered the seventh inning leading 5-1.
But Pittsburgh came storming back and ultimately stole the game away from the Redbirds.
And just when fans think it can’t get any worse, things continue to go south.
The Cardinals fell back into last place in the NL Central on Friday, and now sit 5.5 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers, who lead the division.
