In the MLB All-Star Game, it is rarely the player that starts the game who gets the win.
Mostly because there are so many pitchers and each gets to throw one inning.
For the first time since 2012, a San Francisco Giant was the winning pitcher in the ASG.
Giants closer Camilo Doval walked away with the win in his first All-Star Game.
According to Sarah Langs, Doval is the eighth Giants pitcher to get the win in the ASG.
He is the first since Matt Cain.
Giants to be ASG winning pitcher:
Today Camilo Doval
2012 Matt Cain
1981 Vida Blue
1966 Gaylord Perry
1964, 1962 Juan Marichal
1961 Stu Miller
1959 Johnny Antonelli
1951 Sal Maglie https://t.co/ft6fPa1y2d— Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) July 12, 2023
Doval came into the game in the seventh inning and threw a scoreless inning while allowing one hit and striking out one.
The All-Star Game is great for many lesser-known players to be in the spotlight.
Doval is one of those players.
He thrived in his opportunity and walked away with a deserving win.
For those who may not know, Doval leads the National League in saves this year with 26.
Also, he is first in games finished with 36.
His ERA is 2.63 and he has struck out 57 batters in 41.0 innings.
Once again, the Giants are having a sneaky good season.
When you look at their roster it does not stack up with some of the best teams in the league.
But they continue to find ways to win games.
They are 49-41 and sit only 2.5 games out of the NL West lead.
The Giants are one team that seems to play well together and that has taken them a long way.
