The Pittsburgh Steelers made a big gamble when they gave Kenny Pickett the keys to the offense.
He was a controversial prospect coming out of college, but even so, he was still the clear-cut and more obvious choice to be the starter for them.
He didn’t get the nod right away, and there were some growing pains early in his career, but he closed out the season in a high fashion and showed some signs of promise.

That’s why Steelers veteran Cam Heyward told John Middlekauff that he sees him as a ‘hungry’ quarterback with a very high ceiling, praising the job he’s done thus far and how he’s adapted to the new pieces around him.
Pickett also had some solid comebacks last season, and they closed out the year with an impressive 7-2 record to keep Mike Tomlin’s non-losing season streak alive.
Even so, Heyward wishes the team — and Pickett — wouldn’t have to wait until the fourth quarter to showcase its true colors, citing that they have what it takes to dominate right out of the gate.
The Steelers are a bit of a question mark again this season.
Their defense will obviously continue to be their cover letter, and they’ll always be a well-coached team for as long as Tomlin is in town.
As for the offense, it remains to be seen if Pickett was just a one-year wonder — or half-a-year wonder — or if he’s ready to take another leap forward and prove his doubters wrong once and for all.
