The season didn’t end well for the Dallas Mavericks which has led to serious speculation about what’s next for the team, specifically in regards to Kyrie Irving.
Many rumors have been spread about where Irving could go in the next few months, with a lot of attention being paid to the Los Angeles Lakers.
But Brian Windhorst is telling people to not count out the Mavericks and thinks they could make some moves to retain the eight-time All-Star.
On First Take, Windhorst said:
“I don’t think anybody should discount the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks could make that number ten pick available in the upcoming draft…I think they’re hunting a big-name complementary piece to put aside Luka Doncic to get Kyrie Irving in the fold.”

Irving only joined the Mavs a few months ago so it would be surprising to see him depart for another team in the upcoming offseason.
But Irving has done multiple surprising things during his career.
Therefore, in many ways, this sort of move wouldn’t be shocking at all.
Windhorst says that Irving is always focused on his contract and he wants to do what is best for him and his career.
Beyond his salary, there is also no doubt that he wants to be part of a winning team that values him.
The Mavericks have some big things to think about in the weeks ahead.
There have been reports that the team’s front office is worried about losing not only Irving but Doncic in the upcoming year if they don’t have a strong season.
Will they package away their draft pick in order to raise their chances of success?
Will Irving try to move to another team, possibly the Lakers?
More importantly, will the Lakers even want to do business with Irving now that they have a promising young core of players?
As always, all eyes are on Irving and no one is quite sure what decision he will make.
