The Atlanta Braves are heading into the 2023 season looking mostly the same as they did in 2022.
Outside of adding Sean Murphy in a trade with the Oakland Athletics, the team has been relatively quiet.
However, there are still a few key free agents that remain.
One such free agent is Trey Mancini.
The 30-year-old had a down season with the Baltimore Orioles and Houston Astros in 2022, hitting just .239 with 18 home runs.
But he still possesses tremendous power that could benefit a team in need of a bat.
On Twitter, a Braves fan proposed the idea of the team potentially taking a chance on him.
Is it me or does Trey Mancini kinda seem like a great fit for the @braves #Braves seem like a team he could really prosper with.
1 year deal to reestablish himself.
Just seems so A.A. to me.— Michael Kelly (@michaeljkellyjr) January 12, 2023
The veteran slugger is not far removed from a 35-homer campaign in 2019.
Mancini came to the big leagues with the Orioles, making his MLB debut late in the 2016 season.
For his career, Mancini owns a .265 batting average and a WAR of 9.4.
He could be an interesting fit in Atlanta.
Outfielders Robbie Grossman and Adam Duvall are both free agents.
Mancini could fill the hole left by Duvall’s potential departure.
The 30-year-old provides power and the ability to play in the outfield, at first base, and serve as a designated hitter.
The Braves won 101 games during the regular season and secured their fifth consecutive NL East title.
They fell short in the NLDS against the Philadelphia Phillies.
But Mancini in Atlanta may not be such a bad idea.
He essentially provides everything that Duvall was able to provide for the team.
We’ll see if the front office agrees.
