There have been many great players that have put on an MLB uniform over the years.
But, not all of them have a chance to achieve greatness.
Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. has done it.
He is coming off one of the most incredible seasons in MLB history.
Acuna hit 41 home runs and had 73 stolen bases.
He was the first player in MLB history to achieve those numbers.
But there is another legendary achievement that he reached last season.
According to Sarah Langs, Acuna became the sixth player ever to lead MLB in stolen bases and total bases in one season.
He is the first person to do that since Ty Cobb in 1917.
Players to lead MLB in SB & total bases in a season:
2023 Ronald Acuña Jr
1917 Ty Cobb
1914 Benny Kauff
1911 Ty Cobb
1909 Ty Cobb
1908 Honus Wagner— Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) March 7, 2024
Acuna always had the talent to be the best player in baseball, but last season he finally put it all together.
He brought home his first MVP trophy and now has the expectations to do it again.
But, one thing that has held Acuna back in his career is his postseason shortcomings.
He is a career .257 hitter in the playoffs as opposed to .292 in the regular season.
Last season, he was especially bad in the playoffs.
In the NLDS against the Phillies, Acuna batted .143.
He had two hits in 14 at-bats and that was a reason for the Braves’ shortcomings.
For Acuna to truly reach legendary levels, he needs to play better in the postseason.
That is the only thing holding him back from being one of the best players of this generation.
