The Toronto Blue Jays are closing in on making a significant addition to their clubhouse.
The deal has yet to be finalized but it appears Joey Votto will be signing with the Blue Jays.
From the outside, this deal makes too much sense.
The Blue Jays could use a left-handed bat, and Votto is from Canada.
Going back to play in Toronto seems like a dream come true for the 40-year-old.
Even Blue Jays manager John Schneider had nothing but positive words for Votto.
According to Keegan Matheson, Schneider said: “He’s had a tremendous career. He has accolades that go on and on between his plate discipline, power, and overall reputation as a competitor.”
John Schneider on Joey Votto (deal still not official):
“He’s had a tremendous career. He has accolades that go on and on between his plate discipline, power and overall reputation as a competitor. That’s what he’s brought to teams he has played on.” #BlueJays

Even though Votto is way past his prime, he has plenty of experience he can share with the Blue Jays’ younger players.
He seems like a great clubhouse guy and that goes a long way over a 162-game season.
Even at 40, Votto can still swing the bat with power.
He hit 14 home runs in 65 games last season.
The Blue Jays could use him as a part-time DH since they have Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to play first base.
Playing in the AL East will be a tough task for the Blue Jays.
That is by far the toughest division in baseball as all five teams are expected to compete for a playoff berth.
Even the smallest things like a veteran joining the clubhouse could help push a team over the top.
The Blue Jays hope Votto can provide as much on the field as he does off it.
