The Buffalo Bills are staring another dark offseason in the face after suffering another devastating loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason for the fourth time in the Josh Allen era, this time in the AFC Championship Game by a score of 32-29.
It all starts at the top, as the Bills recently parted ways with an assistant coach in what should be the first of many dominoes to fall this offseason.
Analyst Tom Pelissero shared on X that the Bills have parted ways with special teams coordinator Matthew Smiley despite receiving a vote of confidence from head coach Sean McDermott just a week ago.

Smiley spent eight years with the Bills, joining the organization at the beginning of McDermott’s tenure in 2017 as a special teams assistant, a role in which he spent five seasons until being bumped up to special teams coordinator for the past three years.
Buffalo’s special teams had a rocky year, committing multiple penalties for not having the proper amount of players or the right personnel on the field.
The Bills also allowed the fifth-highest yards per kickoff return, at 30.8, while surrendering a punt block returned for a touchdown and a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Tyler Bass also missed five extra points after missing just five combined over his first four seasons with the Bills.
Overall, you never want to see a man lose his job, but this special teams unit left plenty of meat on the bone this season.
