A new era is beginning for University of North Carolina Tar Heels football, as legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick will now be their head coach.
The Tar Heels have had a few truly great players such as linebacker Lawrence Taylor, linebacker Julius Peppers and quarterback Drake Maye, but overall, they have never really been a football powerhouse.
But with Belichick on board, they have a chance to change that reputation.
Interestingly, there is a buyout clause in his contract for $10 million if he decides to leave, and starting on June 1, 2025, that buyout drops to $1 million, per Chris Vannini.

Belichick parted ways with the New England Patriots after last season following 24 years with the organization and a relationship that yielded six Super Bowl championships.
He sat out this season and has spent time on numerous media outlets, and many felt he would be on the sideline for another NFL team come September 2025.
Instead, he will be in Chapel Hill, teaching the game of football to younger players and hoping to mold them into fully formed men.
Belichick is close to passing Miami Dolphins great Don Shula for the most wins as a head coach in NFL history, and it is a record that it seems he has badly wanted to break.
Given that buyout clause in his Tar Heels contract, one has to wonder if he could be planning to leave after a couple of years as soon as a good NFL team makes him a satisfactory offer.
