The Brooklyn Nets are one team that not many people expect much of next season.
After trading Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant last year the Nets made it clear they were looking to remake their roster.
But, one veteran player who is still around is former All-Star Ben Simmons.
He only played 42 games last season after missing the entire 2021-22 season from his holdout with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Even when Simmons did play the last year, he was not especially effective.
He averaged 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists.
The one issue that has followed Simmons everywhere is his inability to shoot.
He has not worked on that part of his game and he is a liability anywhere outside of the paint.
But Simmons still has high expectations for himself next season.
According to Andscape via Legion Hoops, Simmons said he will be the Nets’ starting point guard next year.

That is something that the Nets and Simmons should both want.
Brooklyn is paying him a lot of money to play for them and they need him on the court.
Simmons has proven in the past he can be an elite distributor and rebounder.
He fits in with the Nets’ current roster and the players they have around him.
Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson are both shooters that fit around Simmons.
The most important thing for Simmons is to prove he can stay on the court.
Any more missed time will cause the Nets to have a long discussion about his future with the team.
But, the idea of having Simmons as the starting point guard of this team is exciting.
