During the 2024 NFL season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had one of the best offensive units in the league, with quarterback Baker Mayfield leading the charge.
Mayfield has looked the part of a No. 1 overall draft pick since coming to Tampa Bay, revitalized as a passer.
Offensive coordinator Liam Coen deserves a lot of credit for elevating Mayfield into a Pro Bowl player, though the offense now has some question marks heading into the offseason.
Not only did Coen leave Tampa Bay to become head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, but star wide receiver Chris Godwin is a free agent.
The veteran suffered a season-ending ankle injury in October but is still expected to demand a lucrative new contract.
While there will be plenty of suitors around the league for someone like Godwin, Mayfield expressed his desire to have him back with the Buccaneers.
“I mean, we love CG. Obviously whatever happens with him will be extremely happy for him because him and Mariah (his wife) deserve that. Obviously their new son means a new mother and father as well, so we’ll be happy for them, but we would love to have him back in Tampa,” Mayfield said, via PewterReport.

Like Mayfield, Godwin looked rejuvenated this season as he became more of a focal point in the passing game.
Godwin spent the 2023 season primarily lined up outside, but this season, he returned to playing in the slot more often, and it unlocked his natural separation ability and route running.
Tampa Bay’s offense thrives with Godwin on the field, so it’ll be interesting to see if it can retain him.
