On Monday, it was reported that after a 22-year career, former St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Angels legend Albert Pujols is joining the league office as a Special Assistant to the Commissioner.
In case you were wondering about his previous commitment to the Angels as part of a personal services contract after he retired, insider Sam Blum has a little more information.
“In case anyone was wondering like I was: Albert Pujols does still work for the Angels as a special assistant, as part of his personal services contract. There is some precedent for people working for both a team and the league,” The Athletic’s Sam Blum tweeted.

On the field, the Cardinals got much, much more from Pujols than the Angels did.
The Angels gave him the larger contract, though, and that contract included personal services after his retirement.
Pujols’ contract with the Angels stipulated that he would be working with the organization in the next ten years after his retirement.
He’ll act as a team ambassador.
In fact, Pujols was a guest instructor for the Angels for a few days during spring training.
Pujols will also work with young players at the Angels’ academy in the Dominican Republic and tutor big leaguers and minor leaguers alike.
He is a phenomenal mentor to have around, as he has incredible baseball knowledge and can preach the value of work ethic, among other things.
