The Atlanta Falcons have been the odds-on favorites to trade for Justin Fields.
Fast forward to today, and it seems like they’ve pivoted.
Recent reports state they are going to make a run at Kirk Cousins instead, and while he’s obviously a proven quarterback in this league, that decision could be slightly questionable.
That’s why NFL analyst Craig Carton stated that they’re a franchise that doesn’t deserve to win.
“There are some franchises that don’t deserve to win, the Falcons are one of them,” Carton said.

Talking on The Carton Show, he reminded his viewers that the Falcons refused to pursue Lamar Jackson and chose to stay with Desmond Ridder instead.
Then, they chose not to pursue Bill Belichick, but they’re now interested in a 35-year-old quarterback about to make $35 million and coming off a torn Achilles.
Kirk Cousins is a good quarterback, and he’d obviously be a significant upgrade for the Falcons.
Then again, they would have to spend big bucks on a veteran coming off a major injury when they could use a second-day pick to get a much younger player with a higher upside, not to mention the fact that Fields is a hometown player.
Perhaps the Falcons aren’t sold on his skills, which is valid, but he’d be a much better fit around the skill players they have right now.
The Falcons aren’t that far behind in the NFC South Division race, and getting Cousins could definitely push them closer to the top.
Then again, he may not have that many seasons playing at a high level at this point in his career, and they could be going through this very same process a couple of years from now.
