The duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis is one of the best in the league but there is no denying that the Los Angeles Lakers are currently not performing as well as they wanted.
There are many suggestions floating around about what could help with that.
Speaking on Hoops Tonight, via The Volume, Jason Timpf claimed that the Lakers need to invest in a third star to help them reach their true potential.
He said that because of Davis’ history of injuries and James’ age, the team would be wise to find a high-caliber third star to get them through the regular season.
"In the regular season, for 82 games, you have a foundation that depends so much on LeBron and AD playing hard"

Like many others, Timpf envisions a scenario where the Lakers add Trae Young in the summer.
He openly admits that acquiring Young could gut the team’s current depth and deplete the roster, but he also believes that he would add so much offensively that it could be worth it.
For years now, the Lakers have attempted to build a strong roster around James and Davis.
They have done well at times, even winning a championship in 2020, but the team has been struggling lately.
There is a ton of talent in the lineup but it hasn’t translated to the number of wins they want.
Although Lakers fans are desperate for the front office to make adjustments to help, they are also a bit nervous.
A few years ago, the Lakers went all-in with their acquisition of Russell Westbrook.
They gave up a lot of talent and draft capital to make that trade happen but it ultimately didn’t work out well.
Westbrook was seen as the third star LA needed but it wasn’t meant to be.
Therefore, Lakers faithful will be very nervous if the team tries this again, with Young or another All-Star-caliber player.
