The Indianapolis Colts have named Anthony Richardson as their starting quarterback.
While this move might have been unsurprising, it did illicit mixed responses from fans and analysts.
During a segment of Good Morning Football, Jason McCourty provided his take on the situation with a positive response.
“Early on, I said it would be good to see him sit,” McCourty initially said.

Quarterbacks have traditionally benefitted from sitting behind a veteran, evidenced by Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Jalen Hurts, and so many others.
Before training camp, McCourty had that belief about Richardson.
However, he later said, “You’re giving this guy a chance to go out there and perform for his teammates, to do his thing.”
Richardson fits the mold of many current NFL quarterbacks, including Justin Fields, Hurts, and Josh Allen.
While he does have a strong arm, he’s also known for his rushing prowess, which has proved to be a valuable asset in the NFL.
Despite wanting Richardson to start in Week 1, McCourty reminded Colts fans about Peyton Manning’s rookie year.
As he pointed out, Manning threw a staggering 28 interceptions during his rookie season.
While it may have appeared that all hope was lost for Manning, he turned out to be a Hall of Fame career.
Richardson could struggle in 2023, but as McCourty points out, this could be great for his development.
It’s difficult to immediately succeed in the NFL.
But, if players can learn from their mistakes, building on them rather than dwelling on the past, things might just pan out.
