Indianapolis Colts fans had mixed reactions when the team took Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
On one hand, Richardson came to the team with a rushing upside that they hadn’t had from a quarterback in quite some time.
On the other hand, fans were worried about a lack of collegiate experience, as he only started 13 games at Florida.
Richardson’s first few games showed a lot of promise, but injuries shut down his rookie season as soon as it was starting to take off.
He also had some great moments in 2024, but with a combination of mistakes and injuries, he was only able to participate in 11 games in Year 2.
This puts the Colts in a tough place, quarterback-wise, as Richardson is still dealing with injuries leading up to the 2025 campaign.
With the possibility of Richardson missing time, this would leave the team’s starting quarterback to be Daniel Jones, Jason Bean, or Riley Leonard.
Fans and analysts alike don’t like these options, and it led analyst John Middlekauff to make a bold statement about this team moving forward.
“The Colts are screwed,” Middlekauff said.

Middlekauff doesn’t think Richardson is a good NFL player, but the prospects behind him also don’t look appealing.
The Colts seemingly believed Richardson was the answer when they took him so early in the 2023 draft, but that decision might have put them back a few years if analysts like Middlekauff are correct.
This team could have a rough few years ahead of them if current trends persist.
