Justin Herbert is the most recent young quarterback to secure a contract extension, the third large contract of the offseason.
The Los Angeles Chargers signed him to a five-year, $262 million deal, slightly more than Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts’ deals.
He’s now tied to the franchise, and heightened expectations will be placed on him as a result.
When discussing these three quarterbacks on ‘Speak’ on FS1, Ric Bucher discussed why he has the most faith in Herbert.
“You give me the guy who’s number one in yardage the first three years in the league, two in touchdowns,” Bucher said.

By Herbert’s stats alone, Bucher believes he’s in for a massive 2023 season.
However, his reasoning didn’t stop there.
“The best offensive coordinator among those three, and all the talent he needs” were additional points made by Bucher.
Not only have the Chargers invested in Herbert’s new contract but also in new teammates to support him on offense.
They used first-round draft capital on Quentin Johnston, one of the highest-regarded receivers in this year’s draft class.
With Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler, and Mike Williams on the roster, Herbert seemingly has all he needs to succeed.
Plus, the Chargers recently brought in Kellen Moore as their offensive coordinator, who could also help unleash Herbert’s abilities.
Moore was the Dallas Cowboys’ OC from 2019-2022, and many believe he’s one of the top OCs in the league.
That said, Herbert has significant tools available for the upcoming year.
Can he combine everything, resulting in another playoff push for the Chargers?
