Every year in the NFL, the Los Angeles Chargers come into the season as arguably the team to beat in the AFC outside of the Kansas City Chiefs, as many would argue that Justin Herbert and company have one of the most talented rosters in the league.
Despite that being the case, the Chargers always seem to underperform and end up choking in the NFL playoffs if they even manage to get that far.
There’s no doubt that the Chargers have one of the best quarterbacks in the game and proved that by making Herbert the highest-paid player at that position recently, at least until Joe Burrow signs his deal with the Cincinnati Bengals, but he can’t get this team to live up to expectations, which is troubling for Los Angeles.
Although he just signed a massive contract worth $262.5 million, Nick Wright of Fox Sports argues that Herbert might be getting worse rather than getting better when comparing the talented quarterback’s first three seasons, via First Things First.

When looking at the numbers side by side, clearly there’s a bit of a regression, especially when comparing last season to his sophomore campaign with the Chargers, as Herbert threw 13 fewer touchdowns.
Coming into the 2023 NFL season, Herbert will be under tremendous pressure to not only live up to his massive contract but to lead this team to some postseason success, even if it’s not going the distance and winning it all.
This will be no easy task as the competition in the AFC has only gotten tougher with the Chiefs and Bengals leading the way, but the clock is ticking in Los Angeles, as this team needs to start seeing some results.
