Several moves have been made in the first few hours of this year’s NFL free agency cycle.
Some moves are massive and could turn a roster from a fringe playoff team to a contender, and others are smaller yet impactful.
At least on paper, one of those smaller moves is the Jacksonville Jaguars’ trade for Mac Jones.
Jones was the New England Patriots’ first-round pick in 2021, and the organization hoped he could be their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
However, after several attempts to make him their guy, it was clear that the Patriots wanted to go a different direction.
They now hold the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, which many believe will be used to select a new quarterback.
While getting traded in one’s career is never great, Jones could make the most of his opportunity in Jacksonville.
James Jones talked about this at length in a recent segment of “Speak” on FS1.
Jones indicated that, while Trevor Lawrence has the starting job in Jacksonville, he might be looking over his shoulder now with Jones behind him.

Despite being a first-rounder, Jones has a long hill to climb if he wants to be a starter in the NFL again, especially on the Jaguars.
Lawrence has won over the fanbase and the locker room, and he’s not about to give that up anytime soon.
Even though this might be the case, Lawrence now has competition in the quarterback room, something he hasn’t had yet in his career with the organization.
