The Kansas City Chiefs’ storybook run came to an end on Super Bowl Sunday last week.
They were one win away from becoming the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls, but instead, they were handed a 40-22 stomping by the Philadelphia Eagles, which created a lot of question marks heading into this offseason.
It was one of Patrick Mahomes’s worst performances, given that the Eagles had more points at halftime than the Chiefs had yards.
The game left one analyst believing that the Chiefs’ historic run is now over.
FOX Sports Radio’s Mark Willard recently spoke about the issues currently facing the Chiefs.
“I think that this Chiefs run, Mahomes be damned, they’re not going to be the big dogs next year. They’re just not. That division just got a lot better this year. Denver now has to be dealt with, the Chargers are a playoff team with Harbaugh. I think they’re done. I think this run is over,” he said.

Willard added that he doesn’t believe the Chiefs won’t be a factor, but he doesn’t see them as the consistent best team in the AFC anymore.
He also lamented the conference in general for potentially losing some of its prestige, given how the Super Bowl unfolded.
It feels a little over-reactionary to say this after one game, no matter how bad that game was, but Willard did point out some glaring holes in this team’s makeup, notably the running back position and how no RB on the team was able to run for more than nine yards against the Eagles.
It’s too early in the offseason to make a legitimate claim like this, but the Chiefs certainly didn’t feel as dominant this season, and it’s possible we have already seen the best of them.
