Before the trade deadline, the Milwaukee Brewers had a comfortable margin in the NL Central division.
However, since the Josh Hader trade, things went South and now the Brewers are eliminated from playoff contention.
But now is the perfect time to go back to the All-Star break, when FOX Sports Analyst Ben Verlander did his mid-season awards segment on Twitter.
The Brewers criticized him for not having Corbin Burnes as the Cy Young favorite, prompting a St. Louis Cardinals fan to defend Verlander’s position.
What followed was a response from the Brewers that at the time looked like a hilarious roast, but has not aged very well since.

“Sorry, Couldn’t Hear You From 3 Games Back”
Since the Brewers made this tweet, a lot has changed.
The Cardinals got hot and ran away with the division, ultimately clinching it on the Brewers home diamond.
And so, this tweet, where the Brewers told this Cardinals fan that they couldn’t hear him from three games back, has come back to haunt them.
At the end of the day, this fan, and the Cardinals for that matter, got the last laugh.
Now, the Brewers are out of postseason contention and will take their seat on the couch for the first time since 2017.
The thing that everybody is pointing to when assessing the Brewers collapse is the Josh Hader trade.
The team went flat after that deal was made, while the Cardinals made some key pitching moves and took off at just the right time.
This is another thing you could potentially point to when looking at the Brewers and how they lost their way in the second half.
Now, it’s the Cardinals who can’t hear them from seven games back.
