On Thursday, Adam Wainwright will make yet another attempt at securing win No. 199 for his career.
The St. Louis Cardinals veteran right-hander hasn’t won a game since June and owns a record of 3-7 with an abysmal 8.78 ERA.
However, he will be making the start on Thursday against the New York Mets.
In his last start, Wainwright allowed eight runs in just one inning and failed to record an out in the second inning.
The 41-year-old understands that his starts of late have not been good, but also is remaining optimistic.
On Wednesday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch shared what the right-hander had to say about his place in the rotation.
“I think you all are looking at it different than me. I think you all are looking at it: start to start, he's done or not done. When I'm looking at it as: I have a month and a half left. Because I'm not going to quit.”

Wainwright commented on the fact that those in the media are looking at things from a “start-to-start” viewpoint and whether or not he still has anything left in the tank given the results of the most recent start.
However, the two-time World Series champion and three-time All-Star says he’s looking at things from a different perspective.
The right-hander remains confident since there is still a month-and-a-half left in the season and he stated that regardless of how bad things got, he would stay positive and not quit.
However, Wainwright could be pitching for his spot in the rotation on Thursday.
If he struggles again, the Cardinals may be forced to make a change to their rotation and shift the veteran right-hander to the bullpen for the remainder of the season.
The results of Thursday’s start will likely determine the Cardinals’ next course of action.
