The Las Vegas Raiders are entering a pivotal offseason with quarterback decisions looming large.
As they prepare to reshape the roster, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft provides flexibility, but the team appears to be casting a wide net in their search for a franchise quarterback, including exploring the free agent market.
ESPN insider Adam Schefter recently identified a potential target.
“I think the Raiders are going to make a play for Sam Darnold,” Schefter said on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “I think Sam Darnold is a candidate to be the Raiders quarterback. Let’s see if Minnesota lets him go or not. Let’s see if that works out with Darnold winding up in Vegas.”

The need for change at quarterback is evident after the Raiders’ experiences in 2024.
Neither Aidan O’Connell nor Gardner Minshew managed to cement himself as the long-term solution.
After Minshew arrived on a two-year contract and O’Connell entered his second season, both quarterbacks fell short of securing the starting role.
Meanwhile, Darnold was experiencing a career renaissance with the Minnesota Vikings, posting impressive numbers with 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns.
His success under head coach Kevin O’Connell, a former NFL quarterback, raises intriguing possibilities about his potential fit with the Raiders and new head coach Peter Carroll.
The question becomes whether Darnold could maintain this level of performance under offensive coordinator Chip Kelly’s innovative system.
While Kelly’s creative approach could complement Darnold’s skill set, the Raiders front office must carefully evaluate its options.
The market could include veteran stars Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson, along with Justin Fields, giving the Raiders multiple paths to address their quarterback situation.
