When Aaron Rodgers went down with a torn Achilles in his Week 1 debut for the New York Jets, it spelled the end to their title hopes.
It’s hard for any football fan not to feel bad for Rodgers as he and the Jets were expected to be one of the most interesting teams to watch during the 2023 NFL season.
As soon as the injury news was announced, Rodgers opted to get the surgery done right away in order to begin the rehab process.
An Achilles tear normally takes a year to recover from given its devastating nature of it, but there were some reports that had Rodgers looking at a possible return in the postseason if New York is able to make it that far.
A return this season seems almost impossible, and Rodgers acknowledged that he’s just trying to get healthy enough to play in the future via The Pat McAfee Show.
“I don’t wanna get caught in a timeline but I’m gonna do everything that I can to put myself in a position to play football again at some point,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers mentions that players like Cam Akers have been able to return much sooner than expected, so there is some hope that he could return for a late-postseason run.
However, given his age, the Jets would be better off allowing him a full year to recover so that he’s 100 percent healthy for the 2024 season.
For now, the organization is just going to have to hope that Zach Wilson can hold down the fort though the early results haven’t been very encouraging.
