Week 1 marked a new chapter for Aaron Rodgers as he finally made his long-awaited regular season debut with the New York Jets.
Rodgers came to the Jets in a blockbuster trade from the Green Bay Packers and figured to immediately compete for another Super Bowl given the young talent on the roster.
However, the future Hall of Famer’s first game with New York ended up being a disaster as he ruptured his Achilles on the first offensive series of the night and was declared out for the remainder of the 2023 NFL season.
It’s a blow for Rodgers and the Jets organization as they now will have to try and make it the rest of the way with either Zach Wilson or a veteran option.
The offense has star-level players in Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, but the team’s ceiling is capped without Rodgers under center.
In his first public comments since the injury, Rodgers admitted he’s still processing everything but is grateful for the outpouring of support via Ed Werder of ESPN.
Rodgers: “I'm completely heartbroken and moving through all of the emotions, but deeply touched and humbled by the support and love.” https://t.co/HSYxDGzp8z

At nearly 40 years old, Rodgers doesn’t have many years left in the NFL and this injury is absolutely brutal considering what it’s done to other players and their careers.
There’s optimism that Rodgers will be able to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of next season, though in the meantime he and the Jets are going to have to make do.
