The St. Louis Cardinals may be finding their groove again after a disastrous start to the 2023 season.
Though they still own a dismal record of 13-24 entering Wednesday, the worst in the National League, they are on a three-game winning streak for the first time all season.
Jack Flaherty gave the team five innings and allowed three runs on Tuesday, walking five batters and striking out three.
Towards the end of his outing, Flaherty’s fastball velocity dipped slightly, which prompted some questions from the media after the game.
However, the right-hander was in no mood to discuss his fastball velocity, and things got a little bit heated between him and reporters.
Things got a bit heated tonight during Jack Flaherty’s postgame presser.
Reporter: “We don’t know that unless we ask, Jack.”
Flaherty: “Well then, you don’t understand pitching. And that’s okay.”
Reporter: “You want to say that again?”

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Cardinals took notice of Flaherty’s irritable demeanor after the game as he discussed his fastball, and stated that reporters don’t know anything unless they ask.
Flaherty responded sharply by brushing Goold off and telling him that he simply did not understand pitching.
Flaherty was once the ace of the Cardinals staff, but has posted a 6.18 ERA through his first eight starts and owns a 2-4 record over 39.1 innings of work.
But it became very clear after the game that Flaherty wasn’t in any mood to talk about the velocity on his fastball, simply stating that sometimes it’s just the way the game works.
The right-hander has dealt with more than his fair share of arm injuries over the past two seasons.
He missed significant time in 2022 due to arm troubles and was limited to nine appearances and eight starts.
