Despite reaching the NFC Championship Game last season, the 2022 NFL season was a nightmare for the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff, as they simply couldn’t keep their quarterbacks healthy and had to make a change three times due to injuries.
Although the team lost Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo to season-ending injuries during the course of the regular season, the 49ers were fortunate enough to see a star emerge in the form of rookie quarterback Brock Purdy.
Purdy came in for the injured Garoppolo and played exceptionally well, winning every game he started until facing the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game, where he suffered an injury.
With Purdy being so impressive during that stretch last season, he’s already won the starting job for the 2023 campaign, but there have been some concerns with his turnovers during training camp, as he’s thrown 10 interceptions thus far, according to Dave Lombardi of The Athletic via Dov Kleiman.
Update: #49ers QB Brock Purdy has thrown 10 INTs in Training Camp so far, according to @LombardiHimself

A little rust was to be expected for Purdy as he has not done much since having offseason surgery on the elbow he injured in the game against the Eagles which ended his season last year.
However, this will definitely be something to keep an eye on for Kyle Shanahan and his coaching staff, as this 49ers team needs some stability at the quarterback position in order to live up to expectations this season.
Fortunately, veteran Sam Darnold has played well during training camp and the preseason, which means the team could have a viable backup for Purdy because Lance has looked lost and still a long way away from being the player they thought he’d be when they drafted him.
