The San Francisco 49ers enter the 2023 season with a major unanswered question.
For the 49ers, the story of the offseason has revolved around the quarterback position, namely, who their starter will be.
Trey Lance was supposed to be the team’s future at the position, given his high draft capital in 2021.
During camp, Lance hasn’t met team expectations and is slated to be a backup unless things change drastically.
LeSean McCoy recently spoke about this situation on ‘Speak’ on FS1, saying “When I look at him, there’s nothing he does special.”

As he highlighted, when teams take someone with a top-three pick in the NFL Draft, there is generally a reason for it.
That player might have a ‘wow’ factor or something they do better than anyone else.
According to McCoy’s analysis, Lance didn’t check any of those boxes when he was drafted, and his standing hasn’t improved.
He wondered what the team saw in Lance’s profile that led them to believe he could be a franchise quarterback.
While McCoy indicated that Lance’s play in camp hasn’t been great, “The real blame should go to the front office of the 49ers,” he exclaimed.
The 49ers are typically seen as one of the league’s top teams and are highly regarded as a well-run organization.
McCoy’s comments call that into question, picking apart their judgment with this pick.
Lance has taken fewer snaps in his football-playing career than some players did during the 2022 regular season.
Will he ever bounce back, proving McCoy and the rest of his doubters wrong?
