The San Francisco 49ers have an interesting and promising situation at quarterback with impressive rookie Brock Purdy and the potential-laden Trey Lance.
Both are coming off injuries, and the hope is that Purdy will be ready for at least some of training camp, as he is set to have surgery on a torn UCL in his elbow he sustained during the NFC Championship Game.
However, the 2022 NFL season showed the importance of having more than two quarterbacks on an active roster, as a large number of signal-callers went down with injuries, and multiple teams had to use four different starters under center.
49ers general manager John Lynch admitted that in order to have sufficient depth behind Purdy and Lance, the team will have to dip into the veteran QB market.

There could be some interesting quarterbacks on the market when free agency officially starts in March.
One player some Niners fans are hoping comes to the Bay is Jacoby Brissett, who did very well while filling in for Deshaun Watson while he served an 11-game suspension.
Brissett put up 2,608 yards and 12 touchdowns, as well as an 88.9 passer rating, and it wasn’t his fault that the Cleveland Browns went 4-7 in the games that he started.
Other names to watch could be Carson Wentz, who was just released by the Washington Commanders, and the Carolina Panthers’ Sam Darnold, both of whom will be free agents.
It seems very unlikely that Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco’s former QB1, will be back in some capacity, as head coach Kyle Shanahan said recently he doesn’t see any scenario in which he would return for the 2023 season.NEXT: The 49ers Have Announced A New Contract Extension For Key Player
