The NFL season has already hit Week 3 with lots of interesting stories going around.
Some of the most shocking stories come from how certain quarterbacks are playing this season.
While some QBs are shocking with outstanding performances, like Tua Tagovailoa in Miami, others are underperforming this season.
So, which three NFL QBs are underperforming the most in 2022?
3. Justin Fields
Justin Fields underperforming comes from a lack of passing attempts and passing yards.
Going into Week 3, Fields ranks 33rd among all NFL QBs in passing attempts.
Justin Fields is 33rd in the NFL with 28 pass attempts (every starting QB has thrown more passes than Fields, including both QBs who have started a game for the Cowboys). And it's not like the Bears have been protecting leads; they've been playing from behind most of the time.

With a lack of passing, the team is playing from behind in games.
However, the Bears holding back their young quarterback might come from the previous gaffes he made with the ball.
But for 2022, he’s made only a few mistakes in the first two games of the season.
While the mistakes are few, it might be enough for the Bears to hold him back in games.
By holding him back, they are hurting his development into a better QB.
If this continues, the young QB will suffer even more in games, potentially turning him into a bust.
2. Joe Burrow
The Cincinnati Bengals came into the season with the comeback player of the year, Joe Burrow, as their offensive leader.
However, his first two games of the season have been disastrous for the third-year QB.
He started the season throwing four interceptions against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a record for him.
While he did somewhat better against the Dallas Cowboys, he couldn’t lead his team to victory.
With problems mounting in Cincinnati, Burrow revealed he doesn’t have Twitter or Instagram now, as fans weren’t happy with the Bengals’ 0-2 start.

While he acknowledges fans’ responses to the Bengals 0-2 couldn’t be good, it’s up to him to improve this season.
His underperforming in the first two weeks is something NFL fans weren’t expecting this season.
1. Baker Mayfield
It’s been nearly two years since Baker Mayfield put together an amazing season with the Cleveland Browns that got them into the playoffs.
However, his play in 2021 landed him with the Carolina Panthers in 2022.
After two games, the Panthers are 0-2 and Mayfield looks like he’s regressing.
While fingers are pointed at everyone, it’s on the star QB to lead his team.
His numbers going into Week 3 are horrible.
He has passed for 380 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception while fumbling the ball five times in two games.
Lot of factors that go into this, but after two games Panthers QB Baker Mayfield ranks 32nd in the NFL in Total QBR (23.7). He ranks 34th in completion percentage (53.6), 26th in passing yards (380) and 31st in third-down conversion passes (50%).

While he never lost those fumbles, it’s a concerning issue as the Panthers place their hope in him.
With him ranking near the bottom of most quarterback statistics, some believe Sam Darnold could have done better.
However, the underperformance from Mayfield might come from head coach Matt Rhule.
The Panthers had issues before with Rhule in charge, meaning Mayfield joined a sinking ship of a team.
But with Rhule’s job on the line, he felt the former Browns QB could easily save his job.
While the faith was placed in Mayfield, he’s underperformed in the first two weeks of the NFL season.
