The 2021 NFL season has had quite a few ups and downs, so let us take a look at some of those downs.
We have one winless team in the Detroit Lions.
There is also one team with one victory this season.
The Houston Texans fell on hard times with Deshaun Watson and his off-field troubles.
Rookie quarterback Davis Mills has been the quarterback for Houston since Tyrod Taylor went down with an injury.
Other rookie quarterbacks have struggled in New York (Zach Wilson) and in Jacksonville (Trevor Lawrence).
Their teams have two wins each.
So, who are the most disappointing quarterbacks in the NFL this season?
You may be surprised by No. 3 on the list:
3. Teddy Bridgewater
In his first season with the Denver Broncos, Teddy Bridgewater began the season 3-0.
However, his Broncos then dropped the following four contests.
On the bright side, Bridgewater helped the team to victories over Washington and Dallas in Weeks 8 and 9.
If he had performed better this season, his Broncos would have a much better record than 5-5 though.
In Bridgewater’s most recent contest, he completed just 22 of his 36 passes for 226 yards with no touchdowns.
The Denver quarterback ranks a lowly 23rd in total QBR this season.
Also, it is not good that he most recently is remembered for this:
Teddy Bridgewater just made the most egregious business decision I think I’ve ever seen on a football field.

On the bright side, Bridewater said:
“It’s unacceptable as a football player, as a member of this team.”
Notwithstanding, the Broncos have only seven regular-season games left, and Bridgewater will have to show improvement and make the postseason.
If not, he may not be the starter next season.
2. Ben Roethlisberger
The end may be near for the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback.
He is 39 years old and has had a roller-coaster season:
- 1-0: win at Buffalo
- 0-3, including home losses to Las Vegas and Cincinnati
- 4-0, including a home win against Denver and a road win at Cleveland
Unfortunately, that four-game winning streak does not disguise that Big Ben ranks 27th in total QBR this season.
In addition, Roethlisberger (reserve/COVID list) missed Week 10’s tie against the winless Lions.
He may miss Week 11’s important contest against the Chargers at SoFi Stadium.
Roethlisberger’s aforementioned low total QBR does not bode well for his future performance.
Also, for reference, here are the 2021 total QBR qualifiers that are worse off than Big Ben:
- 28. Sam Darnold
- 29. Trevor Lawrence
- 30. Davis Mills
- 31. Zach Wilson
- 32. Justin Fields
- 33 (last). Jared Goff
1. Jared Goff
You have to at least feel a little bad for Jared Goff, who went from being in the Super Bowl to being the Lions starter.
Nevertheless, he has had too many poor performances this season:

He extended it to zero passing touchdowns in four of his last five games in the tie against Pittsburgh.
Goff was unable to defeat backup Mason Rudolph and the Steelers.
Now, the Detroit starter may sit this upcoming week due to injury.
If so, Tim Boyle will start:

55.5% completion rate
5.6 YPA
12 TDs
26 INTs https://t.co/YIfYAWPN9Z— Jared Smola (@SmolaDS) November 19, 2021
The Lions are well on their way to the top pick in the 2022 NFL draft.
If Goff is a part of the rebuild, he will surely have to get out of the basement in terms of total QBR.
