The Houston Astros are looking to once again dominate the American League this year.
Having made three of the last four World Series is a level of dominance rarely seen in baseball.
One reason they are successful every year is due to their star-studded roster.
Houston has done a great job of drafting and developing their players.
Now all of those players are playing a massive role on the 2023 team.
Despite a slow start to the year, the Astros have won eight straight games.
One player, in particular, continues to make his case for AL MVP.
That is slugger Yordan Alvarez, who is arguably the best home run hitter in the game.
According to Sarah Langs, Alvarez has hit 14 multi-home run games in his career.
That trails only Ralph Kiner for most all-time in a player’s first 410 games.
most multi-HR games in first 410 career games:
Ralph Kiner: 17
Yordan Alvarez: 14 ** thru game 409 today
Gary Sánchez: 14 https://t.co/yAyTR6yX2p— Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) May 23, 2023
Alvarez has helped lift the Astros out of the hole they were in to start the year.
Despite not getting much from Jose Altuve (injured), Alex Bregman, or Jose Abreu, Alvarez has been the one steady force.
So far this season, Alvarez has played 41 games.
He is hitting .305 with 12 home runs and 46 RBI.
The slugger is well on pace for his third straight 30+ home run season.
Houston has plenty of competition for the AL pennant this year.
The Tampa Bay Rays are the best team in baseball.
Also, the Texas Rangers currently have the lead in the AL West.
Both teams should be able to give the Astros a run for their money along with plenty of others.
The Astros are hoping to win their third straight AL pennant, and the play of Alvarez will greatly impact that.
