On Monday, former Los Angeles Dodgers star outfielder Yasiel Puig became the center of controversy after a report was revealed by the Department of Justice that Puig had been involved in an illegal gambling operation and placed nearly 900 bets in a span of just three months.
Puig could be sentenced to maximum five years in federal prison.
However, a different side of the story has been revealed by Puig’s agent, Lisette Carnet, who explained that Puig was only asked to be a witness and was not the target of the government investigation.
Carnet also revealed that Puig had been seeking treatment for ADHD and mental health struggles.

Puig’s Agent Tells Another Story
Puig’s agent also noted that he was set to be interviewed as a witness, but did not have much time to prepare for it, stating that he felt rushed was not provided with an interpreter for the interview either.
She also went on to say that Puig would have benefitted heavily from additional care during this time, and that the investigations triggered more mental health issues and worsened his ADHD symptoms, given his experience growing up under an authoritarian government in Cuba.
If Puig’s agent is telling the truth, this could be a major development in the investigation.
Puig reportedly agreed to plead guilty to the charges levied his way.
But with a different side of the story emerging, more light has been shed on what Puig could have been going through at the time.
If the allegations are true and Puig ultimately is sentenced to prison, his playing career is likely over.
