New York Yankees utilityman Oswaldo Cabrera was called up from Triple-A Scranton last year, in August.
It took a while to replicate his minor league form in the majors, but once he did, he became a valuable piece of the puzzle for the Yankees.
In 171 plate appearances, he hit .247/.312/.429 with six home runs and a 111 wRC+, above the league-average 100 wRC+ mark.
He did that while showing unique defensive versatility: he was masterful in the outfielder corners, where his excellent arm plays up; but he also played second base and shortstop.
The start of the 2023 campaign wasn’t as kind to him, though, and the Yankees had to make decisions.
He is now back in Triple-A to see if he can regain some of the form that made him some valuable for the Yanks in 2022.

Cabrera is more than capable of bouncing back in Scranton, but it remains to be seen if he can regain his form in the majors later in the season.
For now, he will take his .195/.246/.292 line and his 46 wRC+ to the minors and join Cordero and Krook to make room for Josh Donaldson, Giancarlo Stanton, and Tommy Kahnle.
The rehabbing trio will join the Yankees ahead of the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on the weekend.
Donaldson and Stanton will inject some life into an inconsistent lineup behind Aaron Judge, while Kahnle will fortify an already elite bullpen.
