The New York Yankees have to fill several coaching vacancies.
Their bench coach, Carlos Mendoza, has agreed to be the new manager of the New York Mets.
In addition to that, they don’t have a hitting coach at the moment: Sean Casey, who replaced Dillon Lawson in-season, will not come back for the 2024 campaign.
The organization has been trying to identify worthy candidates to help change the organizational outlook on offense, and it appears they have found one, according to recent reports.
“Hearing increasing org chatter about James Rowson being seriously considered as the next Yankees hitting coach. Was the Tigers assistant hitting coach last year and has Yankees roots, serving as their ML hitting coordinator in 2014-16 (worked with Aaron Judge) and from 2008-11,” Yankees insider Erik Boland tweeted.

This past season, Rowson worked as the Detroit Tigers assistant hitting coach.
True, the Tigers weren’t a particularly impressive offensive team, but that has more to do with their talent level than anything else.
Rowson should be partially credited for Spencer Torkelson’s improvement and for Riley Greene and Kerry Carpenter’s breakouts.
As Boland states, Rowson has been tied with the Yankees before.
He was the organization’s minor league hitting coordinator for six years and accumulated experience as a hitting coach with several different franchises: the Chicago Cubs and the Minnesota Twins.
He also acted as the Miami Marlins bench coach and more recently as Detroit’s assistant hitting coach.
The Yankees are expected to announce their new hitting coach in the upcoming days.
