The New York Yankees will not be playing in the playoffs this season.
It has been a long season in New York full of injuries and underperforming players.
So, the Yankees have decided to use the last month of the season to see what they have in their young players.
That was why they called up star prospect Jasson Dominguez.
The 20-year-old has been fantastic to start his MLB career.
Unfortunately, Dominguez injured the UCL ligament in his right elbow.
That will require Tommy John surgery and his season will be over.
So, the Yankees moved Dominguez to the 10-day injured list.
Taking his place on the active roster is Estevan Florial.
According to the Yankees, Florial will take over the 28th roster spot that is allowed for each team in September.
Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves:
•Selected OF Estevan Florial (#90) to the 28-man roster from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
•Placed OF Jasson Domínguez on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to 9/10) with a right UCL tear.— Yankees PR Dept. (@YankeesPR) September 11, 2023
Florial is 25 years old and has played 30 games in his MLB career.
He has yet to show much when given an opportunity in the majors.
But he should get the last three weeks of the season to show what he can do.
The Yankees need to start building a strong roster around Aaron Judge.
They rely too much on the reigning AL MVP to carry their offense.
If they can add some quality hitters around him, they should be a much more complete team.
Florial could be a player that emerges on this Yankees team.
You never know what he can be without getting him on the field.
So these final few weeks are a showcase for the young outfielder.
