The New York Yankees will take the field against the Cleveland Guardians this evening.
Both teams will play Game 5 of the American League Division Series, a winner-takes-all affair in which one team will be going home and the other one will earn the right to face the Houston Astros in the Championship Series.
Manager Aaron Boone will have lots of arms at his disposal as he tries to navigate the Guards’ lineup.
Cortes shouldn’t be expected to cover much more than four frames since he is pitching on short rest, so the bullpen will be a factor early.
Gerrit Cole, who threw 110 pitches on Sunday, is available for Boone.
Yankees Insider Explains Severino’s Availability
How about Luis Severino?
“Luis Severino is also technically available because pretty much everyone is available in a win-or-go home game. (Even Gerrit Cole is available.) However, Severino would be lined up for a G2 start so he is also very far down on the depth chart,” The Athletic’s Lindsey Adler tweeted.

So far, if the Yankees make it into the ALCS, Jameson Taillon would start Game 1.
He would be available in an emergency today, but Boone would prefer to save him for the Houston series.
Severino has bullpen experience and could be a weapon today, but Boone would likely save him for Game 2 against the Astros.
Which pitchers are available?
In case of extreme emergency, we might see Severino or Tallion.
